Good Morning everyone,
Today I'm sharing a box I altered for a friends 5th wedding anniversary. His wife loves the book "The Hobbit", so he bought her the limited edition! He asked me if I could do something to make it look pretty for her. So, I came into my stamp lab and the wheels started turning. I wanted to keep within the theme of Wizards, Warlocks, Magic, and all the other neat things that go on in the story. I had to have little background about the story (I've never read the story nor have I seen the movies. Appearantly, this is the beginning of the Lord of the Rings. Okay, so I had this DCWV paper that I never used called "Once Upon A Time". It was perfect for this occasion! I used Tim Holtz Distress Stain to colour the box. I was sweating bullet, because I had never used the stain before and wasn't sure how it would turn out. Let me just say, it was gorgeous (if I do say so myself). I used peel off gold stencil to trim the box. Of course the flowers are from WOC (Wild Orchild Crafts) and Prima. Most of the charms are from JoAnn's in the jewery section, the metal number "5" stencil is from Stamp Asylum (Plano, Tx), the ribbon is from the Crafty Scrapper (Waxahachie, Tx). I have had this ribbon in my stash for quite some time. It was so pretty, I kept thinking I don't know why I need to buy this but something was telling me to get it. I started gathering the things I needed to complete my project and that ribbon was exactly what I needed. I used the DCWV cardstock mentioned above to partially cover the front, insides, and back panels. I did some tearing and lots of inking to make it look old and tattered. I used Mod Podge to adhere the paper. I used Glossy Accent to adhere all the flowers. I stamped lines on a tag I created out of a torn piece of the DCWV cardstock and shapped it with a nest to make a journaling tag. My BFF Lesia from Memas Crafts gave me some jute cloth a while ago and I used that to cover the book inside the box. Because one of the main points of the book/movie revolved around a "ring" I found a really neat tricket pack at Michaels, that had something in it that really looked like a ring during those times. I put it in a burlap sack (from Maya Road). I used one of Tim Holtz's little potion glass bottles and filled it with flower soft (for the concoction-the love potion). Believe it or not, it only took me 6 (six) hours to complete the entire project. My co-worker loves the box and I think Mrs. Co-Worker will too. Here are some photos of the box before and after. Oh, I also created a small box for another gift he bought for her ( a book light to clip on her book). I used a paper mache' box I got from JoAnn's, covered it with Prima 6x6 "Romance Novel"- love, love, love this paper pack. Stamped the lines on the journalling tag. It is absolutely beautiful!!!! The pearl lace is from Crafty Scrapper; Jute cord is from JoAnn's, the roses are WOC, and I inked the edges with distress ink from Tim Holtz. I hope you enjoy the photos.
